Call For Entries

The IMCA Showcase Awards competition is now in its 52nd year! The competition recognizes outstanding marketing communications in the insurance industry to encourage higher standards of excellence. And it’s a perfect opportunity for you to obtain confirmation and recognition of your great creative work!

Awards & Judging

Judging is conducted by marketing, advertising, writing, graphics and audio-visual professionals from both within and outside the insurance industry. Teams of judges will evaluate each entry and rate them on a scale of 1 to 25 based on the following criteria:

Judging Criteria (Non-electronic communications categories)

  • Effectiveness/Functionality
    Potency of impact, prompts to action, professionalism in accomplishing its stated objective
  • Audience/Focus
    Reflects the interest, needs and language of the stated target audience, absence of conceptual dissonance
  • Content
    Well-written copy or script, use of compelling language, articulation of complex concepts
  • Design/Presentation
    Artistry, visual appeal and synergy, insight and uniqueness, enhances the communications objectives

Judging Criteria (Electronic communications categories)

  • Design/Presentation
    Core design concepts, layout, use of space and tools, synchronization of both visual and audio elements
  • Functionality
    Overall operational efficiency, universal audience appeal and usability, quality of code, navigation and site performance
  • Content/Audience/Focus
    Content quality and usefulness, verbal expression and clarity of language, overall information architecture and access.

Award of Excellence
Presented to the second and third place winners in each category.

Best of Show
Awarded to the one entry in each category receiving the highest point total.

SAMMY
This Special Award is presented each year to the one entry deemed the best overall by voting attendees at the IMCA Annual Meeting. Both Company and Associate members are invited to vote during the annual meeting. Only one vote per attendee will be counted.

Eligibility Guidelines

  • Competition is open to IMCA Company and Associate members as well as non-members.
  • Materials must have been produced between January 1, 2009 and March 15, 2010 in support of insurance services operations.
  • You may submit as many entries in each category as you wish.
  • Syndicated material, defined as material prepared on speculation by an outside company for use by the insurance industry, will not be accepted and will be returned along with the entry fee.

Entry Classifications – Total of 35

Corporate Communications

Includes projects, programs and campaigns that are not sales oriented, but are guided by an organization’s corporate image, employee communications, and investors.

Internal Corporate Communications

Corporate communications targeted at company employees supporting the organization’s goals or special events, including anniversaries, benefits, mergers, new brand rollout or employee appreciation events.

1) Employee Print Communications
Newsletters, special publications, brochures, postcards, invitations, posters, etc.

2) Employee Electronic or Interactive Communications
Computer-based communications using electronic delivery, including Web sites and e-communications (e-newsletters, e-magazines, e-mail).

3) Employee Audio/Visual Communications
Programs that use sound, video, film, slides, CDs or
a combination of these elements.

4) Employee Communications Campaign
Three or more activities or materials using at least two
types of media – for example, print and e-mail.

External Corporate Communications

Corporate communications targeted at analysts, shareholders or the public, including charitable activities, sustainability/green initiatives and other social programs or events.

5) External Corporate Print Communications

Newsletters, special publications, articles, white papers, brochures, postcards, invitations, posters, etc.

6) External Corporate Electronic or Interactive Communications

Computer-based communications using electronic delivery, including Web site and e-communications (e-newsletters, e-magazines, e-mail).

7) External Corporate Audio/Visual Communications

Programs that use sound, video, film, slides, CDs or a combination of these elements. Can be single media, multimedia, or interactive.

8) External Corporate Communications Campaign

Three or more activities or materials using at least two types of media – for example, print and e-mail.

Other External Communications

9) Annual Reports – Publicly Traded

Electronic or printed.

10) Annual Reports – Private

Electronic or printed.

11) Public Relations, Single Piece

12) Public Relations, Total Campaign

13) Corporate Social Media

Blogs and other social media used to communicate with corporate external audiences, including clients, prospects, agents, and the general public.

 

Marketing Communications

Includes projects, programs and campaigns that are focused on marketing (or promoting) products and services in line with business goals and objectives.

B2B

Business-to-business marketing (including agents & brokers)

No more than three (3) commercials promoting product/service or image.

22) TV Spot or Campaign

No more than three (3) commercials promoting product/service or image.

23) Sales/Marketing/Branding Promotion, Single Item < $20K
24) Sales/Marketing/Branding Promotion, Single Item $20 - 50K
25) Sales/Marketing/Branding Promotion, Single Item > $50K

B2B or B2C

26) Audio/Visual Communications

Programs that use sound, video, film, slides, CDs or a combination of elements. Can be single media, multimedia, or interactive; may also include radio and television.

27) Publications

Magazines, newsletters and special publications.

28) Event Marketing

Marketing materials created for use at industry events or trade shows. Entry may be a photograph of a booth used at the event.

29) Marketing, Electronic or Interactive Communications

Computer-based communications directed to external audiences that use electronic production and delivery, including Internet Web sites, e-mail campaigns, banner ads and PURLs.

30) Marketing Social Media

Blogs, social Web sites and other online tools and practices that allow individuals and groups to collaborate and share knowledge.

31) Total Sales/Marketing/Branding Campaign < $75K

No fewer than three (3) pieces; budget should include all costs, external and internal.

32) Total Sales/Marketing/Branding Campaign > $75K

No fewer than three (3) pieces; budget should include all costs, external and internal.

Miscellaneous Categories

This category includes all marketing projects that don’t really fit the marketing categories mentioned previously but are just too good to be forgotten.

33) Best Idea Never Produced

A communication that was developed but never produced.

34) Your Best Design

A communication that solved a design challenge with exceptional creativity.

35) Creative Development on a Shoestring

A communication where development of design and copy is $1,000 or less, excluding print cost.

 

How to Enter

1. Read the Eligibility Guidelines and Judging Categories.

2. Step 1: Completing the Entry Form:

  1. Complete page one of the Entry form - be sure to include the total number of entries (submissions) per category.
  2. The fee for each entry is $100 U.S. funds for IMCA members and $250 U.S. funds for non-members. Payment can be made by credit card via secure online payment processing.
  3. When providing your address, please use a street address - not a post office box - since you will receive display easels for selected entries via UPS.
  4. All entry forms and fees must be received no later than Monday, April 5, 2010.

3. Step 2: Completing the Identification Form:

  1. You'll need two (2) sets of material(s) for each entry. If you are submitting a multi-cultural entry, please provide an English version as well.
  2. The first set will be judged by the judging panel who will select the Best of Show and Award of Excellence winners.

    1. RETAIN THE SECOND SET TO MOUNT IF YOUR ENTRY PLACES IN THE TOP 50 PERCENTILE! (All materials submitted for judging will be discarded)
    2. If your materials place in the top 50 percentile of the category entered, you will be advised to mount the second set of materials on a mounting easel you will receive at a later date.
    3. The mounted entry will be displayed at the IMCA Annual Meeting in Atlanta where your peers will review and select a SAMMY winner.
  1. Photocopy and complete an identification form for EACH entry.
  2. Securely attach the proper form to each entry (make copies of the identification form if you have more than two entries).
  3. Place each entry in a separate envelope. This ensures that we will receive the entry intact. Please note if you are sending multiple entries they can be bundled as one package for shipping to the judging panel.
  4. Photocopy and retain a set of completed identification forms. These forms will be used if your entry is displayed at the Annual Meeting.
  5. Submit materials to the IMCA office no later than Monday, April 5, 2010.

4. Please note, when you enter the Showcase Awards competition, IMCA reserves the right to use your company name on our web site, in press releases, in our association newsletter and in other media when the winners of our competition are announced.
